There's still time to submit a statement to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Migration's Detention Inquiry - http://detentionforum.org.uk/detention-inquiry-2/
Deadline today!
Do you think you could maybe use your Freedom of Information account to find out how much these immigration centres cost to run? I suspect that the number would be a good rallying point for showing people that the Home Office are the real scroungers.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline,
DeleteI think that Detention Action may have tackled this already. See their FAQ :

'How much does it cost the taxpayer?
One year of detention in Colnbrook, where many people are held for long periods of time, costs over £70,000.'
This in response to a parliamentary question - note that not all detention centres may cost the same - http://www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=2013-10-31c.168092.h&s=immigration+detention#g168092.q0 :
'The estimated average direct annual cost of holding a person in our immigration detention facilities for 2013-14 is £37,230.' (Mark Harper, then Immigration Minister)
