Parliamentary inquiry on family migration - Update and next steps.

http://www.migrantsrights.org.uk/blog/2013/03/parliamentary-inquiry-family-migration-update-and-next-steps

Both sessions were extremely well-attended by people from across the country - many part of the online BritCits group - who have been directly affected by the rules. It was very powerful to hear both personal accounts from those affected, as well as analysis from policy organisations and lawyers about the issues which have arisen from the rule changes.

More on a story we posted about yesterday.

http://gulfnews.com/news/world/australian-actress-ebony-buckle-denied-permission-to-live-in-uk-1.1156442

Australian actress Ebony Buckle denied permission to live in UK.

...Ebony even has some high-level backing for her case. Senior civil servant Sir Alex Allan, former chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee and a long-standing family friend, said: “Ebony is an asset to the UK, fully able to support herself and happily married to a British national. It is tragic that unthinking application of the new rules is keeping them apart.”

Family migration rules drive doctors out of UK.

http://bma.org.uk/news-views-analysis/news/2013/march/family-migration-rules-driving-doctors-out-of-uk

Doctors who have kept the NHS going are leaving the UK to care for ageing parents overseas due to immigration rule changes, the BMA has warned.

BMA director of professional activities Vivienne Nathanson told the all-party parliamentary group on migration that the BMA had already heard from members who had left the UK because of changes to family migration rules.

Dr Nathanson cited consultant forensic psychiatrist Tejpal Singh, who relocated to Singapore from England, so she could be with her parents. She said Dr Singh had completed her training in the UK and had been actively involved in training medical students and junior doctors, in a shortage specialty where jobs remained unfilled.

Legal aid cuts force closure of almost a third of Shelter offices.

Cuts an 'assault on family life' as British Red Cross culls expert advice and while Citizen Advice bureaux make staff redundant.

Seen on Facebook :
I watched this programme last night. People from Utter Pradesh had migrated to Mumbai and were driving taxis. The local government were blaming them for all the ills and for taking jobs and putting stress on housing etc etc. So the locals were attacking the taxi drivers. Sounded sooo familiar - blame the migrants!

IMMIGRATION has fallen after people finally bothered to find out what Britain is actually like.

http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/immigration-down-as-foreigners-finally-do-some-research-2012113051289

For decades thousands arrived filled with optimism, only to turn on their televisions and immediately start weeping into their Pot Noodles.

But now internet-savvy would-be immigrants from eastern Europe, Asia and Africa are changing their travel plans after spending an average of just four minutes online...
